UNDP leadership at the country level plays a critical role in the management and implementation of the 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda. In many countries, conflicts have devastated traditional livelihoods, weakened governance institutions and ruptured community social protection networks. These same communities now face drought and food insecurity brought about by climate changes. Elsewhere, human rights defenders are fighting for their lives, free speech and democratic principles in the face of increasingly authoritarian political regimes. Gender equality is critical to unlocking these complex challenges and is foundational to the attainment the 2030 Agenda and new feminist thinking and practice is revolutionizing old paradigms of development and institutional reform. This course will bring to bear cutting edge feminist thinking, emerging strategic pathways to the analysis and problem solving that are central to the work of the UNDP senior leadership team at the country level, while also paying attention to the particular opportunities and challenges inherent to being a leader in the UN system. The course will draw on the real life work challenges and contexts that the RRs and DRRs face every day, build on their own experiences of what works, support leaders to build their own ‘action plan’ of change on leadership for gender equality, and facilitate collaborative problem-solving with key constituencies.
